Port 80 / http streaming
All our hosting packages allow you to stream audio or video using Real
Player, MP3, Windows Media or Flash formats. This is the ideal solution
for the distribution of archived video or audio content. Because the streaming
comes over the same route as web pages and images (port 80) there are no issues
with firewalls blocking content.
For live streaming please visit this page.
To set up media streaming on our server you first need to compress your file
into a suitable format. If you wish to use Real Media you should compress your
file into a .rm file.
You should upload this file to the server and then make a .ram file linking to
this .rm file. To make a ram file, open a simple text editor such as Windows
Notepad, type:-
http://www.yourdomain.co.uk/audiofiles/mytrack.rm
and save as a .ram file. You should then link to the .ram file from your web
site.
To stream for Windows Media Player save as a .wma or a .wmv for audio and video
files. The latest versions of Media Player will automatically stream these
files.
Please purchase the Professional Web
Hosting account to take advantage of our streaming service. You can
use a domain name for this account or we can create a sub-domain for you for no
extra charge.
